For Ported Build To The Bigger Size Or Smaller

lets say for example for a ported sub they suggest anywhere from 1.5-3 cuft and this was a spl sub that you were going to use for daily and still wanted to make sound decent not just a 1 note wonder or fart box..would you build towards the bigger end or the smaller end of the suggested box space? also what would be the ideal tune?

building on the bigger end would benefit the low end notes, along with low tuning. i like to tune between 30-35 hz. building smaller will be louder on the high end, but you'll lose a little on the low end. maybe not noticeable tho.
