American Bass XFL 1222 trying to wire to 1 ohm load.

Recommended Posts

I have installed an American Bass XFL 12 dual 2 ohm sub in a ported box being ran by a D4S MM1500KFD.  The sub has wire leads instead of terminals. I wired the leads together then ran that connection to the amp basically in a Y configuration. I tested the ohm load and it came in at 2 ohms.   I’m not sure how to wire it to get a 1 ohm load.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Joe thanks for the reply. I understand what you are saying but in the diagram that sub has terminals that can be have the wire going to the amp and the wire to the other voice coil connected at the same terminal. I’m going to take the sub back out and re test each voice coil. I thought I did that and they tested at 2 ohms but I could be mis remembering.

I took the sub out of the box and unwired it. Checked the ohm load at each set of wires for each voice coil. Each voice coil ohmed at 2.4 ohms. I called American Bass and they said that the sub was wired correctly and that when wired to a 1 ohm load there could be .3-.4 ohms just in my meter. I tested the leads together and the meter read 0.3 ohms. So basically it appears that I wired them correctly the first time but I’m with Joe, I thought it should have tested at less than 1 ohm when wired correctly.
