Simonpiper Posted November 30, 2024 Report Posted November 30, 2024 Hello all. I would love to get some advice on making enclosure for my 2 12” Orion xtrpros http://www.directeddealers.com/Documents/Orion25thCatalog.pdf they are the ones in this catalogue. 2x dvc2 ohm wired to 2 ohm going in vw Passat . Ported enclosure My car has the ski pass thru in the arm rest and I’m hoping g that is enough to stop the shelf from rattling ? they were in a 2.6cube tuned to 40hz but with one 4in aeroport. Major chuffing. Seems like they wanted to breathe more. The Orion manual recommended 1.5cu ported with 4 in aero tuned to 40 any constructive input greatly appreciated
Joe X Posted December 1, 2024 Report Posted December 1, 2024 You should post a few pics of your current setup. The only thing I can confirm is that a single 4" port for those two will cause some brutal port noise. So my question is: when volume is down and there is no port noise, does the bass sounds nice? or it lacks deep bass.
Simonpiper Posted December 1, 2024 Author Report Posted December 1, 2024 Thanks for reply With low vol it lacks the lows i have heard the same subs in a similar sized vehicle and they sounded so much better. They said that it was around 4cu with slot port tuned around 35. both subs and port facing trunk. And on 1400rms
Joe X Posted December 2, 2024 Report Posted December 2, 2024 Ok so there's two issues, the rattling and the enclosure: For the rattling, the ski hole size is not large enough for all the bass to get into the cabin, instead what is usually done is open up the rear deck cutting bug holes and then using a deadened custom rear deck cover so that everything looks nice while soundwaves easily pass. On the enclosure I had some one asking about a box for the same subs a while back and what I suggested was a 3.6 cubic feet net box tuned to 34Hz with 47 square inches of port area for the two 12s subs and port firing back as you said. If you go larger just make sure to keep the amp power in check and use the subsonic filter to avoid damage to your subs, One has to be more gentle with older subs because the potential degradation of the soft parts over time.
Simonpiper Posted December 16, 2024 Author Report Posted December 16, 2024 Thankyou for advice. I will send pics of the build once completed
Simonpiper Posted December 19, 2024 Author Report Posted December 19, 2024 Got it into trunk . 4.2 @ 34hz much more bass when driver door open, will making the big holes in the rear deck give me the same bass but with the door closed you think?
Joe X Posted December 20, 2024 Report Posted December 20, 2024 If you open and close the ski hole and it sounds the same probably making the holes will not help.
