Bryce781 Posted March 21, 2025 Report Posted March 21, 2025 I’ve got a AudioControl EPIC2000 pushing 2 alpine s-series 12’s. The issue I’m having is the amp just turning off and restarting while playing. Most of the times they make a popping noise before doing this. I’ve gone through all the wiring I’ve done to locate issues, to no avail. The issue is strangely hard to recreate, with some days it won’t do it all, but some will do it every 20 seconds. I was thinking it was an amp issue, so crutchfield sent me a second one, which worked for 2 days, and is doing the same thing now. Am I wrong to assume that is a sub issue? I just assumed the amp would go into protect and STAY in protect, rather than just restarting. Any help, or insight, things to diagnose, are greatly appreciated. I can answer any questions about the rest of the system. Thanks 🙏
EricM9104 Posted March 21, 2025 Report Posted March 21, 2025 What does your charging/battery system reserve look like? Are the subs wired down to 1ohm. 2. or 4? Is there enough ventilation around the amp? Is the gain set properly? By properly, I don't mean setting by ear... Do you have a way to also verify the amp is receiving a clean (or clean enough) signal from your H/U? With them making a popping noise, sounds like it's clipping into protect...If the subs have been clipped enough to damage the voice coil, it would indicate damage inside the driver, not the amp. Hence why you're seeing the same issue on a replacement. To check the subwoofers, you could start with the following. Remove subs from box, check each voice coil independently with a DMM set to ohm(impedance). You're looking for a reading at or within +/- ~0.2ohms of rated. 2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr | 110k miles | Stock 1996 GMC Yukon SLT 4dr 4wd | 260k miles | JVC Head-unit
SarahSolis Posted March 22, 2025 Report Posted March 22, 2025 Sounds like a tricky situation! Before blaming the sub, double-check your wiring – loose connections can cause intermittent issues like these restarts. Consider power and ground. Is it properly grounded to bare metal? Also, is the amp getting adequate voltage? Pacman 30th Anniversary
