MMATS Jugg & Monster Questions.

Hello, looking to install new systems in two different trucks. I'm currently looking at the MMATS M1000 and M1400 amps, depending on current draw, etc. (Just made a post in the amps section.)

 

The F150 has room for a backfiring 2.5^3 ft. 36 Hz. vented enclosure w/ 24^2 in & 12" driver.

The F250 has room for whatever, but roughly considering 3.5-4.5 cubes for a 15" driver. I always went with downfiring, but I think I'll try upfiring this time.

 

I've been looking at the Juggernaut and the Monster subs. I know there is also a Hybrid and Max version of the Monster, and think a triple stack option for the Jugg or both. Unless I step up to the M2000, which of these should I consider pairing with the M100/1400 amps in their respective enclosures? Do the Juggs NEED the power? Do they NEED all 4.5 cubes? MMATS XMAX values seem to be half that of the competitors though...???

 

How is their QC? I saw a "recent" post somewhere that claimed 3 of their Juggs over the last 4 years had their top plates come loose.

 

Should I consider other drivers? I recently saw that Gately is making subs, (Alpha v2?) which are no doubt some beasts, and I used to be familiar with Resonant Engineering. I just don't want to run anything imported, and I have zero plans of competing, if people even do such things anymore. The REs seem super expensive? I just want a daily driver street beater that will take w/e I throw at it for the next 10+ years, drama free. To my ignorant eyes, the T/S parameters look pretty sweet on the Juggs, other than XMAX. Nice control and super efficient? Thx!

Look at this cone excursion problem throughout the 40's and 50's on the Monster12 @ 36 Hz: (Why for, when Fs is 38.8 Hz, mms is relatively low, and qts is .47? Is it because the 10mm XMAX value is actually halved?)

 

 

Comparison of the Monster12 in a 2.6^3 and the Juggernaut15 in a 4.5^3: (Can I get some feedback?)

The Juggernaut is 19.8mm Xmax, so take care where you get parameters from, the manufacturers recommended box internal volume is best but if you need lower volume like 4 cubic feet you should be fine, you can use the model you entered and lower the volume to see the effects.

 

Other than that there are many subs out there if you are not set on that brand, from the parameters looks like the juggernaut is higher efficiency with higher cone area and lower MMS, which means it will get louder for the watt, to that end the larger box will help.

Thanks! XMAX seems low, but I guess you can't argue w/ their numbers. Does the cone excursion plot for that 12" Jugg seem alarming, or just a theory?

 

I seem to recall in the early 2000's that the Jugg was known as a purely SPL sub. How about these current spec "Series III" Juggs? Since my ears will be just a few unfettered feet from the 15" upfiring driver and port, am I headed the wrong direction?

The Juggernaut 15D2 which I was looking at is basically 20mm Xmax which is ok for a medium power subwoofer so no problems there.

 

How you aim your sub and port depends on the vehicle, aiming up in trucks can cause the windows and roof to flex and cause rattling in some cases but not always, one must run a few tests before deciding what is best.

 

Also bear in mind that when running more than 1000 watts rms you generally need electrical upgrades which need to be added to your total system cost.

 

Since you have two trucks I would recommend making a plan for each and decide which you will do first, take measurements for a sub box and total costs and then go from there.

Thanks, I was just curious if the "SQ" of the Jugg had changed over the decades, or at least the perceptions. Is it possible they actually displace 0.5^3 ft @ only 7" depth? Dang.

 

I'm thinking about running the 15" inverted. I would assume that the motor noise would be a factor though?

Those subs are generally considered daily subs with average sound quality but I couldn't answer which are better since it's a brand that is not used on here and personally I have not used them.

 

What is used on here are mainly Sundown audio subs and for a cheap alternative skar audio subs. for bass amps the great majority of people use taramps Brazilian amps which quite frankly I would never own not even for free.

Both subs are sounding great in their enclosures. Very happy. They also slap like a MF. Comparing with my DD 9512e from years ago.
