duece9s Posted September 24, 2025 Report Posted September 24, 2025 i've had my BRX640.4 for about 10 years with the same speakers all 4 speakers are 4 ohm, and lately they have been acting up. front right speaker doesn't play audio most of the time, and when it isnt working, the channel next to it, has some static to it. i measured out resistance on all 4 speakers at the amp. if i flip around the wiring of channel 1&2, the issue flips from front right to front left. is there any way use a multitmeter to check individual channels? ch1:4.5 (front left) ch2:6.8 (front right) ch3:4.2 (rear left) ch4:4.2 (rear right) 06 saturn ion 1 12" L7 ported box http://www.imagebam.com/image/d02e9a536031108 sony 9001GTR ( 10+ years strong for all you haters) speakers- Kicker 40CSS654(front)/ 40CS654 (rear) Mid Amp: Hifonics Brx 640.4 @ 4 ohm 4 gauge Stock batt + XS power XP950 in the back
EricM9104 Posted September 25, 2025 Report Posted September 25, 2025 Are those your ohm readings from the speakers? 6.8 looks like it's on it's way out on the speaker... If you have a known good working speaker, wire it directly to the amp and check it on each channel individually. 2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr | 110k miles | Stock 1996 GMC Yukon SLT 4dr 4wd | 260k miles | JVC Head-unit
duece9s Posted September 25, 2025 Author Report Posted September 25, 2025 i was measuring them at the end of the wire prior to going in the amp. My front two speakers are 40CSS654, with an external crossover box (one of which has the 6.8 ohm reading. i did check the resistance of the front right component speaker at the terminal where it goes to the cone, and it was around 4 ohm. I also disconnected all output leads from the amp, and connected the two rear 40CS654 2-way speakers that both read 4.2 ohm, but hooked them up to channels 1&2, and got the same issue with channel two not playing anything. Hooking only one known working speaker directly to the possible bad channel resulted much less sound at the same volume/song than that same speaker only plugged into ch 1 06 saturn ion 1 12" L7 ported box http://www.imagebam.com/image/d02e9a536031108 sony 9001GTR ( 10+ years strong for all you haters) speakers- Kicker 40CSS654(front)/ 40CS654 (rear) Mid Amp: Hifonics Brx 640.4 @ 4 ohm 4 gauge Stock batt + XS power XP950 in the back
EricM9104 Posted September 26, 2025 Report Posted September 26, 2025 Okay sounds like you found your problem. 2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr | 110k miles | Stock 1996 GMC Yukon SLT 4dr 4wd | 260k miles | JVC Head-unit
duece9s Posted September 27, 2025 Author Report Posted September 27, 2025 okay so the amp is bad? but is it because something with the crossover box went bad causing the higher resistance? is there anything i can check opening up the crossover box? i found some shotty solder job that i did years ago joining wires at the junction of the speaker wire i ran and the pigtail from the speaker. 06 saturn ion 1 12" L7 ported box http://www.imagebam.com/image/d02e9a536031108 sony 9001GTR ( 10+ years strong for all you haters) speakers- Kicker 40CSS654(front)/ 40CS654 (rear) Mid Amp: Hifonics Brx 640.4 @ 4 ohm 4 gauge Stock batt + XS power XP950 in the back
