Recommended Posts

I own a Toyota Matrix hatchback and am thinkin about puttin 4 DD 1510s in the back and was wonderin if these would be a good spl setup and if so what I could do to make the best out of it as far as enclosure design for a hatch? Thanks

pretty much anything sounds good in a hatchback, for 4 10's i'd go with something like 5cuft

yeah i was thinkin about going subs up port back and tuning the box to about 34 hz or something around that

Wait... do you want SPL or musical?

That idea would work for music but wouldn't pull numbers.

If it's a burp box, do subs up port forward and put the back seats flat. Either that or subs up port up. I have seen both work in small hatches but subs up port forward was louder.

Do maybe 3 cubes before displacement with 2 external 6" aeroports tuned to about 60hz or close to whatever your cars peak is.

Yeah im wantin to for spl. So for 4 10s I should go a lot smaller? and tune a lot higher? and i always have been told subs up port back in a hatch is best for spl setups...whats the advantages to the other setups? also...i do not want a simple burp box I was wantin a bass race box or something like that

You need to decide if you want to get big numbers on a tone or on music.

A bassrace tuned box will generally get KILLED by a burp box every time.

Sub/port direction depends a lot on the exact car and setup.

I have seen sub up port left work well in a Matrix and sub up port up get very loud in a similar car.

Subs back port back often works well in hatches but I don't think the Matrix is slopey enough.

You need to play around a bit though, see what works.

In general you want a smallish box, lots of port area, tuned high if you just want numbers and don't really care how it sounds.

I am wanting to get good numbers on music. This box will also be my daily driver but I absolutely LOVE bass so they are pretty much one in the same. So i donno...kinda lost right now
