You know steve, I always wondered why you never wear ear plugs, inner or outer.. Either that or they are really small. Do your friends tell you that you talk loud? Is "huh" he response to most questions you get verbally?

its not that i talk loud, im closest to the camera when i am talking and it is sensitive...my hearing is probably 100%..........as far as i know nothing is wrong with it.

i have no tinitas *sp either.........last time i had a case of tinitas (for 2 days) , it was from a concert not from bass ;)

but hearing something over 151 is damage. theres no buts about it.. there is damage that can never repair itself at 151.. the caddy hits 160? Ive worked on a flight deck of USS Nimitz before.. it wasnt my rate but Ive spent many hours out there. 164 is a jet taking off, afterburner burnin and even with double hearing protection it still literally rattles your guts.. With no hearing protection and standing watch you have to shove your fingers into your ears as hard as you can.. even if its for a second. If I can get the codec to work I'll post some of jets landing over my head.. I KNOW my hearing has gone a bit.. not a whole lot but a bit. How is it you're not deaf? Lol..

If you need ear plugs, I got you.. nothing wrong with being able to hear when you're old.

I wasnt talking about the video volume =] I meant in general...

It just looks so irrisponsible to the viewers... Alot of people look up to you. most people think that wont bother em when they see a 20kw system slamming and nobody wearing ear hearing protection. Its already too late after that first note. I mean, you SEE the guys clawing at their ears to cover em and you smile.. like you cant feel it. Theres no "used to it" its either going deaf or not. I'm not trying to get on your case I was just curious why someone like yourself would even risk compromising your hearing when your life is based around your ability to make things sound good.. and wire.. lots of wire.

Sorry if I'm being a nag I was just wondering. Lol yes it is nagging and I'm not saying you ARE irrisponsible, its your ears you can do with them what you please but do you recomend no ear plugs etc when your hitting that hard, showing out for people etc..

I think your way off.

There is a clear difference of 150 of bass and 150db of jet engine. Put the 2 on an RTA and see where each peaks at. The higher frequency is where the damage comes from. Thats why you can come out of a 2 hour concert that is only around 130db at best and have ringing yet blast 130 in bass all day with no issues.

I just took a hearing test last year and have 100% hearing. I listen to my system hard every day and have for the last 15+ years.

I don't think it's irresponsible on his part as much as ignorance on the parts of others that don't know.

Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

Thats true.. jets are a rather high frequency. Your ears never hurt? ache even a tiny bit when you turn it up so loud your no longer listening to music just sort of having it forced into your ears? You know the feeling, your ear drums are like being forced in and out with the pressure..

Nope.

When the truck gets above 150 my ears feel like they are plugged like when you have a cold. Then I turn it down and it goes away with the music. Same in Steve's truck. I've had more demo time in his ride then most over the past 5 years. I have never had ringing from the bass in anyones system. Now the mids and highs can cause a little ringing after awhile when turned up for long periods of time.

Some web site quote about hearing.

How Loud is Too Loud?

Too loud is when you have trouble hearing over the telephone; normal conversation is muffled. especially the speech of children and female voices; you ask people to repeat things; or there may be a vague feeling of pressure or fullness in the ears or you just can't shake that high-pitched ringing or buzzing in your ear. One reason people don't notice the danger of noise is that excess exposure to noise cause few symptoms. Hearing loss is gradual and rarely painful."

That means your going deaf =] All of you non SPL folks.. listening to your damn rap music! jk.. All I'm saying is you only got one set and once they get blown there isnt a re-cone made for humans yet..

i have none of those symptoms and probably 500 people have given me that same speach including my mom and grandma when i put my first set of Realistic 12's in my first car. "your gonna go deaf".

20 years later and 22,280 watts later im still doing fine.

if i play metallica or pantera (my favorite metal bands) for too long in my ride YES i can get some ear fatigue and a slight ringing. I KNOW my mids/highs arent 125db so there is a big difference between below 50hz and 500hz and up...

I'll take extended periods of time with my 16 12's beating over 150 over my Ipod ear buds any day. I've been around long enough to know what fatigue my ears and what doesn't. Giving demos to the masses doesn't do a thing but I will use my hearing protection every time when using my sander or router.
