Dale
what are the processes a pc should be running on windows xp? what is svc host and how many should be up? Microsoft Service Host Process How many you have running depends on the services you have running at the time. I have six running right now. Are you talking about the fan on the drive itself? Or the CPU fan?
ChevyBoy
the cpu fan for the processor (i was told that one). so you only have 5 processes running like i said, or 5 svc hosts?

Dale
Open up your task manager and keep an eye on your CPU usage level. When you connect your drive, see if it changes....or sky-rockets to or around 100% If so, that may be causing the fan to speed up.
