Tapped Horn Enclosures

ve been seeing lots of talk lately about "tapped horn" enclosures, and saw one this weekend that yielded some decently impressive results.

anyone know much about designing these things? im interested in playing with the design and seeing what it would do in my particular application.

talk to either fallen hes designs are cheaper the petes from hexibase but they are still very good. or you can talk to pete i know for a fact that both of them can design some good tapped horns...... as to say what the design is and how to explain it im not 100% sure i think there are different syles of them ...... id ask on of them

id rather not get a design from someone, i design lots of enclosures myself. im just trying to find some good online resources for info.

its a very simple concept, its already explained, its just the port and cone loading in the same exit, to put the bass in better phase, port and wooferleaving same exit also yields more output, I have a better link,

This is the style I make, and they sound great for SQ so far, I just havent build a hardcore SPL version yet, I assume a chamber behind the woofer at the beggining of the line would work best

this style I have no built yet, but I will, this one has an actual air chamber behind the woofer

I assume this will end the SQ/PA type sound, and go for a more boominess sound

the big thing im wondering is how are they designed? ive seen all these wesites before, no detailed info in calculating them. from the looks of it, is it just figured like a reverse tapered 1/4 wave t-line?

according to Cowan, I believe he said, (I read it once somewhere on one of the forums hes on- DIY audio I believe) and the line start off at SD, ends at SDx's 2

Simple enough

Try and keep that taper/horn at a constant, and you should be ok

But now you can also do a actual tline - I still call these Phase horns/phase lines, I dont understand where the tapped horn comes from, your putting the front and rear wave in perfect alignment, so anyways, yeah, you can do a standard tline to,Ive done one once, and it was more boomy than the typical design of tapped horn, but wasnt as predictable, it in my case was very high Q, peaked at tuning, and had steep slopes above and below tuning

I was suprised, beause for regular tlines, that usually doesnt happen- Again, it could have been the sub I was using too? to high Q of a sub being used?

But anyways, according to Cowan, its measured like a standard quarter wave, starts off at SDx's1 ends SDx's2

You can Download Hornresp and model your own tapped horn...I'm still working on figuring out the damn program though
