4 Ohm Sub's Not Reading Right

Recommended Posts

So i managed to "fix" my dad's old DMM. i set it to ohms and i read both my Kicker and RF P2 subs. the label says 4 ohms, but they registered as 2.6-3.0. that cant be normal...

how did you fix it with duct tape????

That's why they don't deliver.

Yer ass better go sit along the side of the road and wait.

You can't expect them to travel up some dirt road in a hick / back woods town. Thats how horror movies start :D

I explain things very simply and use analogies in terms of Pickles, and grape drink, pool noodles and jackhammers...if you can't put 2 and 2 together there man, There simply is not much more I can do.

i fixed a "component" inside the dmm, it was a sheet of metal going over most of the transistors/resistors on the board. i put the metal back over the board and it started reading ohms correctly, kinda freaked me out.

but it might be the DMM, but 4 ohm subs arent supposed to read as 2.7-3 ohms...

good luck finding a speaker that says 4ohms, and meters 4 ohms

the 2.6ohms sounds kinda low, but most 4 ohm speakers will read from 3.0-4.0 ohms 2ohm coils 1.5- 2ohms, etc

Another thing, set it in ohms, and measure the resistance in the tester leads, connect red and black on the leads, and see what number comes up

deduct that from total number

I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.

i know that theres no speaker that will read 4 ohms, 6 ohms, 8 ohms on the dot.

i just touched the leads together, says .8 ohms.

so if i got 2.8 on a sub, then i would add .8 ohms and then i would come up with 3.6, that makes a little more sense now heh

thanks for that big tip man.

actually if there is already a .8 ohms resistance between the leads you would take that away from what it reads, so if it were reading 2.8 it would actually be 2, then the .8ohm resistance between the leads. Unless I am way off base.

My System:

Pioneer AVH-P3200BT

4-Dayton 7 inch reference series (front doors)

if its off by half, then I would say its possible the sub was built with wrong coils? Ive done that a few times

4ohms should read above 3ohms, but 2ohms? wow, way off
