Well, on the 700 mile drive back to the house, regular gas went from 3.50 to 3.89 to 4.00 to 4.29 the further we drove West towards Mississippi. It wouldn't suprise me at all if it pops 5 or 6 soon. They are trying to ration out the gas here, but almost EVERY gas station from Alabama into Mississippi were out of everything but the Premium. Several stations I saw (about 10) had no gas at all. 01xtreme Posted September 13, 2008 Report Posted September 13, 2008 You do understand with more than half the offshore rigs being shutdown since yesterday it kinda effects the supply right I understand the some of the offshore rigs have shut down, but you do understand that does not instantly effect the supply, right? Just cause the rigs have shut down does not mean that gas prices should immediately shoot up 1,00 per gallon. It is clearly just giving gas stations an excuse to gouge us on prices. If anything it should cause a gradual increase in price, not the spike that many people have been seeing. Alot of those rigs have their production in refinerarys within 24 hours, they arent that far from the coast and if you have ever been to SE texas and the coast of Louisiana there are plants all along the coast the refine the crude. As someone else mentioned I dont see how a gads station can jack the price up when they have the same gas in their tanks from the day before, after a new delivery comes obviously that makes sense then but i guess we in the wrong business. But then again the stations arent the ones getting rich off this stuff at 10 to 12 cents markup per gallon.

They are just trying to make money hand over fist. Raising the price of gas without it costing you more is gouging, IMO. Any price changes due to economic forces (supply/demand) is a gradual change, the instant changes are due to external forces. How it just shot up in some areas is beyond me. Greedy SOBs. Last night when I got home, it was 4.29 per gallon here. Guess what- after the W made his announcement about price gouging, it went back down a good bit below 4 again.
