candyman74 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 i have an 01 tahoe and im needing help to figure out the port size and tuning freq. the speakers call for 1.75 cu ft ported and i have that part figured out but im having problems coming up with port size and legth. their tuning calls for 30hz and the f3 is 35hz. i need a box for 6 of them. the outside dimensions of the box are 49l 29w 18h. if there is any jl audio people on here and think of a better design let me know im open to any suggestions. and i was wanting subs up and port back. as far as bracing ill use 2x4s

candyman74 Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 after further review i messes up the subs need 1.75 cu ft after port displacement and sub displacement. its more like 2.21 cu ft per sub. anyway hope this helps
aznboi3644 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 still it doesn't matter...even with the dimensions posted the calculations are still about 1.6 cu ft NET per sub tuned to 30Hz with 140 sq in of port area...that is with .5 cu ft taken up by some good bracing.
Forevrbumpn Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 since they are just w3s, and if your in to sound quality, you may just want to do 3 separate cavities, with 2 subs per cavity 1 port per cavity, would also end up needing less bracing due to the dividers acting as bracing The low end usually gets a little stronger when the air space is not shared with like a shit load of other subs, with alot of other subs, you gain SPL or efficiency at higher frequencies, unless you go with a much larger box for a lower system peak freq I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
