Burban kicks - 1st fiberglass

Recommended Posts

Damn man, they looked quite good too.

Like you said, next set will be X10, so lesson learned, you'll be better for it.

Layer em up a bit more. Like I said: think "tiny sealed sub boxes". That's how I build mine, kinda ridiculously overbuilt but they will NOT bend/break.

Good luck on the next set bro and feel free to shoot those Q's out there if ya got any.

Oh yeah, learned a ton - When I fix these up, theyre going to be 10x better than they are right now. Probaly use some different materials. I might just scratch it, and build them up totally from scratch instead of incorporating the original panel into them. They gave me more problems than I thought they would. They looked great before it died -  :rip_1: kick panel.

then they were worth every minute speant  on them......

Ive been glassing for  11 years, and I still learn somthing new with every project...

if you decide to redo these.....it should not be hard to get them apart...

now If you go off the stock kicks again

before you even get to this point....

put a layer  of fiberglass on the back side, wet it out really good, this will cause the resin to bubble through the 1/4"holes on to the front side.. after it cures sand it with 36 and knock down those bubbles, put a layer of glass on the front side, let it cure

then hit it with 36 grit to rough it up, the glass on each side will bond to itself through the 1/4 holes and sandwich  the plastic.......

Sweet - great pointers, I'll probably start again in a week or two, after my company comes and goes, but I'll  be sure to start out just like that. That was my biggest problem, keeping the panels from flexing under the glass - what you said should take care of that for sure - thanks man.

(i have pretty much teh exact same thing going right now, except i made a mold of my kick panel and its not stock, so this is a great tip i am going to do when ever i start....
