12" Btl

Recommended Posts

I have a small trunk that will only fit a box for 1 ported 12" or 2 sealed 12's. I've decided on 1 12". And I want a BTL and the specs on their site don't show up for the BTL's. I just want to know if these are good subs in the 12" size. I heard a long time ago when they had the old designs that there was bad tinsel slap with the 12's and that the 12's are hard to get to play low because they are spl subs and the fs is very high. So my questions are, Are they good daily subs? And also what is the "P chamfer" option, "Induct heat ring", and what does "Universal" mean?

The BTL is deffinately a bad ass sub. They require quite a bit of power to get em moving sufficiently. However, I'm not shure you're ready to skip strait to the BTL model. There are three series of Fi models below the BTL line that may be better suited for you.

what do you drive, and what are your plans in system design?

What's the rest of your setup, for a start. I can't see the point in a single 12" BTL unless you're severely limited for space (in which case it's dumb because the monster amp you'll need will take up so much space anyway) or it's for a specific application ie. Street A dbdrag.

P chamfer = Pole Chamfer and is a cooling thing

Induct heat ring is another cooling option

Universal means you can run any impedance coils in it. If you don't choose universal then the motor is optimised for a certain impedance coil setup (don't know the process behind it) so you can't recone to different impedance if your setup ever changes.

I'd agree with Earthman, If I were you, I'd go with a Q or a BL. Sure they're not as the BTL, but they still get down.

Yes. The BL still gets real loud with 1000 watts, and the Q sounds great with 1000 watts. The BTL will require a huge amp and probably a better battery and/or electrical system.

I'd go with a BL because it will get loud, and it's a great subwoofer with 1000 watts. I think you would need 2000 + watts for the BTL to get it movin. By then, the BL would already be bumpin.

u may want a bigger alt too. I guess its not neccessary, i ran 2 T10001's off my stock electrical with 3 batts... but i was dipping bad.

also i forgot, i dont know why people are sayn not to get a btl, go for it, especially off that T20001. But if u have a T20001 why dont u do 2 Q's sealed? it would be louder(in theory) than 1 12 btl.

I didn't realize he had that power. If he does, then go for the BTL. It'll take 2000 watts and more. It should be hella loud. Mxman is right, a bigger alt maybe needed to lessen the dippage.

I don't actually own the amp right now but I want it. And once I get enough money for the whole system I'll probly get one. But if you guys think it's not worth it, maybe I will just save a ton of money and get a T1000 and BL.

But nobody has answered my question. Can a 12" BTL play real low? I looked at the BL specs and the 12" has an FS of 38 hz. Which is pretty high, so let me know what u guys think.

I'm not so sure, I think it could play low. I've never actually owned one, so I can't say for sure.

But I know that the 18's play super low (Steve's Tahoe), so it could be a possibility that the 12 will play low too. I'm not sure though.

I'm sure theres people who have owned this sub, maybe they should chime in.
