Third Gen Camaro System/mod.. Need Help

Okay well i tried to post about 2 minutes ago, but I came to campus and my internet changed and i hadnt signed in yet, hit post and lost it all so lets try again.

Im 18.. freshman in college.. I own 2 camaros, one a 1983 sport coupe, the other a 1985 berlinetta with t-tops. Currently the '83 is my daily driver.. not in the greatest condition, and the '85 is my newly acquired project. Its in far better shape than my 83 and being a rookie im using it to help ease my work.

In the '83: Piece of .S. unchambered box (came with the car) I took out the 10" sonys that were in there for a 10" RF P2 and a 10" RF P1 powered by an Alpine amp running 500w rms @ 2 ohms. The P2 is running on one voice coil (was told this was okay) and am running the P2 and P1 in parallel at 2 ohms. Also a set of Alpine 3-way 6x9's and a set of Pioneer 4x6's that i havent changed out yet. With a RF RFX9000 head unit. Its a far better setup than what came in the car but it doesn't wow me very much.

So in the '85 i want something SICK. Was thinking about running a Crunch P1400.2 with two 12" RF T1's in a custom 3/4" MDF chambered sealed box with about 1 cubic foot per chamber covered in fiberglass. I've never built a box or done fiberglass so i'm in for a journey. But it's what i want and it's best to learn and try. I refuse to pay someone for something I should be able to do. I want to know what you guys think of this setup, the amp i can get for $120 and the subs i can get for about $150-$200 apiece. I think it should be a good setup, but like i said im a rookie so I dont know much. Is there going to be a better subwoofer for that price and a better amp? Any opinions or ideas or anything would be appreciated. This is all a first to me. My dad did car audio for years, but that was back in the day and he never stayed up on it. I got the basic installation from him, how to hide wires (mostly) and he always told me Rockford and Alpine, while that may have been true 10-20 years ago, (and can still be true today) I don't know what other brands may give me the same quality that Rockford has given me all my life. I am a college student and somewhat budget minded, but again this is my project car, it'll prolly span out over a period of time. But for the bass package I would like to stay near the $500 to $700 figure. And also what speakers would you run for highs, what head unit, what amp for highs? I plan on building a Kickpod with 5 1/4 components in them. I just want a sick stereo in the car, since eventually it will turn out to be (what I hope) a head turner. I'm doing it all myself, paint, engine, suspension, interior mods, basically just everything. It'll be a good experience. But all in all I want to tell people "Yeah I bought that, I bought it all, I paid for it with Blood Sweat and Tears and it's all my own work".

Okay I know that was a long story but like I said i wanna hear what opinions yall have. I could use all help and advice that you guys can give. I would appreciate any bits of info you guys can throw at me. The only car audio shop we have around here is Great Sounds (Muncie, Indiana) and they deal with a small selection and its mostly all JL. Other than that I have Best Buy and HH Gregg.. kinda like car audio hell.. it SUCKS. So mainly i'll be buying online/

Thanks again guys.. if need be shoot me an email at [email protected]

Oh one last thing, I'll def need a bigger alternator and maybe a separate battery. (right now the '85 is completely stock, manual doors and windows, but power antenna) I'll either use Stinger or RF wires to set it all up (or again if guys have some thoughts.. shoot em at me)

Thanks all..

Mike S

I'd hit that so fucking hard whoever pulled me out would be King of England.

Sounds like you got it all thought out well.

Where are the woofers/enclosures going to be mounted at? In the rear seat firing forward? I know there ain't much room in 3G Camaros.

hah well thanks for reading through all that. But the subs are all going to sit in the rear trunk well the box will fit custom to the specs

n1167000077_30166996_631.jpg thats the current setup in my '83. The box is crap.. totally crap.. but it works. for now... when i actually do the box and everything all wires hidden and not jsut thrown in there like that.. but the custom box will sit down in the well like that bit fit flush and be raised up to the top edge. I know RF is good.. but i dont know a thing about other brands like RE and FI and all others.. i dont know whats good outside my world of alpine and rockford

dont get me wrong my neighbors call the cops on me for just that p2 and p1 running on that 500w... so now i atleast wanna make it worth it when they call.. f***ing aholes
