He is just starting out, but I don't want him to get a crappy kit. I am playing on a 10 piece Roger made by Yamaha. I am looking at either a Pearl or Mapex, with a deal to posibly trade him my kit for a 5 piece.. But I need to know what other think about the Mapex kits... Any one, any input? kingsuv Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) I haven't messed with a Mapex kit. They look decent. Pearl, DW, Tama, Yamaha etc would be a good choice. I have a pearl Expot series, It's ok. Nothing to my Masters kit awhile back. If he's just starting out then anything will do. Make sure he is going to stick with it before he invests into a good kit. The resale on them are worse then Audio gear. Hell get him an old ass Lugwig or Cb 700 kit that way when he does get a nice kit he will appreciate the better hardware out there. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.

jhmeg2 Posted October 27, 2008 Author Report Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) lol I looked at a CB 700 this morning. the only cybal it had, had the dome broken out of it and was chained on to the rest of it. the only piece of hardware was a stand with a peice of somthing broken off and jammed into it to hold the cymbal on. ha ha lol what a pyn of junk.
