hey guys somethin weird happened to my amp, i was tweakin on my frontsystem and one of my amps to the sub popped really loud and started smokin bad and i was like "wtf was that" how is it even possible the sub channel on the hu was OFF so can someone pleeease give me a good answer on this one......

Maybe the amp just gave up the ghost. They do that occasionally especially if they've been run hard in the past. All it takes is for one output part to go bad and become shorted out and sometimes the whole amp will go pop.

but the amp is still working but i havent checked the output voltage of it tho

I have done the same thing before, only instead of turning the subwoofers off, I unplugged the rca's from the amp then turned the car on and continue to tune my mids and highs. I also put a amp in protect buy turn the rca's off on the head unit like you did (the amp got very hot).

Some amps can not sit on a idle (with them being turned on but no input signal), most the time it happens to class d monoblocks. not every amp does it tho rockfords seem to be safe, but american bass is another thing I think.

I was told that the amp is searching for a signal even tho there is no input signal, it will still try to amplify whatever it can like white noise.

I was told this by my boss, and still wanted a second opinion which was Scott from ARC (amprepaircenter.com) who repaired the amp. It took out the power supply fets and a few resistors.
