audiofanaticz
define cheap, and what you are looking for in a amp such as wattage and the ohm load you will be using it at.
hhaudio
4 maybe 2 ohm. 800-1400 watts. under $150.
Boon
What coils does that sub have? I can see the amp is bridged, if that's a dual 4 ohm sub the amp will be seeing 1 ohm per channel = protect. Quote 10.x volts fo' life!
hhaudio
its a single 4 ohm.
hhaudio
so I pulled the cover off and there is a nickle-sized smoke/black mark on the board by a resistor. So back to what is a good cheap amp, 800-1400 watts, 4,2,or 1 Ohm, and under $150?
hhaudio
K well i opened up the amp and found a burn and what looks to be a screw that gorund the board to the case. If the case isn't grounded would that throw it into protect? Burn The Ground Screw???
audiofanaticz
The screws really aint to important. It dont matter if the amp is grounded to the heatsink or not, since there is a external ground being connected directly to the amp. The screws hold the board tight from sliding and moving in the heatsink. Looks like some burned mosfets.
hhaudio
alright, well it looks like i'm looking for a new amp. thanks
hhaudio
Well I got a new amp. I got a Sony Xplod ZR1252B 800watt max. I know its an Xplod, but for $20 I have a 4 year protection plan. Best Buy will replace or fix it if it fries, shorts out, etc. It seems like a decent amp for 1 or 2 10"s. How do sony amps hold up? I know their head units suck.
