The "Them be shinny boxes" work log... 56k uberdeath!!

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, here are some more pics. I am making some progress as you will see. The first 5 pic's are all second coat. You can see that they still need a lot of work but are slowly getting better... After the first 5 pics you will see the result of close to an hour's worth of sanding with 2500 grit paper. I went into town and picked up some 2500 and some rubbing compound and all I have to say is WOW!!! I'll stop talking and let the pictures explain for them selves.

I'm not done, not by a long shot! I still need to work on the top some more plus I have all the sides yet to do. I still even have some painting but, that will all happen later. This project will probably take another 2 weeks or so to finish depending on how much I work on it.

Let me know what you guys think of my progess so far...

Jon

It deffenetly takes a long time, and a lot of patience! lol. When I first started off I was moving quickly and expecting results right off the bat. Lets just say that at first I was not impressed but, after an hour or so worth of sanding and then putting the finish glaze on, my patience deffenetly paid off. I should be able to finish the top up by tomorrow, and will take finished pics then.

I'm hoping to start building boxes and doing these "Black Mirror" paint jobs for anyone who is interested. I'm also hoping to sell these boxes as well.

"Black Mirror Builds" Thinking that will be the name I'll use if I start doing builds for people. Has I nice ring to it, least I think so....lol

Thanks for the replys guys!!! I put another 2+ hours in this morning with no really noticeably change. I just have so many pits that need sanding it outs getting frustrating!!! I've come to this conclusion, Pre-paint prep is the most IMPORTANT step!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll do some more later today. If i get some good results I'll post some pics...

Well deffenetly screwed up the box :furious: I'm pretty sure putting the rubbing compound on is what screwed me. I think I should be able to put more layers of paint back on it and just sand it again. If I do that, I will have a good smooth base to work from. Words can't describe how smooth it feels right now but it just looks like total crap. I'll let you all see for yourself...

I think repainting the box is my best bet, even though I really don't want to. The whole box does need more paint plus I burned through the paint in a couple places. I will be repainting tomorrow I guess. I'm thinking this will be the best bet...

Pic's will follow as I start back over again...

Ok I did a little bit more work yesterday on the boxes. The results you see are with 600 grit paper. I think I might of used it a little to long but its not a major issues. The finish is slowly coming together. I plan on working on it again tomorrow so I should have more pics then. So on with the pictures...
