sean 371
Why the hell would chevy decide to integrate alarm with head unit?? it takes a simple 10 dollar wiring harness and turns it into an 80 dollar one! sorry just wanted to rant. is there any way around this or is my friend stuck with an extra 70 dollar expense? Pokey
They did that just so you gotta either pay the extra monry to replace the stock HU or you have to go back to Chevy to get things done and they can charge you out the ass for it. Pokey
Yup....it's dumb. That's why I won't get another new Chevy. I have an 02 Silverado, but it didn't have any options, I got the base model to work with so I was lucky.
ChevyBoy
yea you gotta pay that shit. depending on what you have, sometimes the airbags wont work, door chime, interior lights. etc without the right harness.
Pokey
I was told by the shop owner where I got my system done that it was illegal for them to make it so that the airbags wouldn't work by just removing the radio. Pretty fucked up thing to do IMO.
BassJunkie
Couldn't you just run all new speaker wires and splice a wire for power? Or would that affect everything too? sean 371
Couldn't you just run all new speaker wires and splice a wire for power? Or would that affect everything too? The head unit controls the alarm system, door chimes, etc. So if you remove it, you have issues unless you get the correct harness. It comes with a small control box to take care of all those functions for you.
