duct_tape123
I've had this amp for several years and noticed that it wasn't as loud as it usually was. I touched the amp and it was burning hot! I pulled the fuse and let it cool. I put the fuse back in and turned the radio on and within 5 min it was just as hot as before. I found that I had accidentally put a screw through the speaker wire while reinstalling a sill panel after running a satellite radio antenna. The amp is a RF301M 300x1 @2 ohms, powering a pair of Punch Z 4 ohm subs. The other amp is a RF201S 50x2. RF301M RF201S
Boon
Yeah looks like the toroid in your monoblock is burnt. It could be an expensive fix, most shops don't like working on those RF amps that have the transistors soldered onto the little PCBs out the side. 10.x volts fo' life! duct_tape123
Would the screw through the speaker wire do that or is it because its an old amp? It still plays fine, just not as loud and it gets warmer than normal.

Probably meant the amp was driving too low of an ohm load because of the short and the toroid couldn't handle the amount of current through it. If the toroid is a bit stuffed it'll drop your rail voltage which is probably why the amp is quieter and runs hot. 10.x volts fo' life!
duct_tape123
Thanks, man! Now just have to get a quote to see if this thing is worth fixing. If I could get a hold of a replacement could I just solder it in there or are there other things that need to be checked?
