The only RE's that I would buy over the L7's would be the RE MT's. The L7's are amazing woofers that a lot of people hate on for no reason. They have a modest 750 watt rms rating and I've put 2500 on one for a burp and did not break it. I'd say 2 L7 15's would be louder than 2 RE SX 15's if you know what your doing. Even 3 12's would be great but that is going to limit your amp choices. If it were me I'd run something like 2 L7 15's off of a pair of Sundown sae1200d's at 1 ohm each. That would be right around 1500 watts per woofer and you wouldn't have to worry about too much power going to them. If I did the 12's I would run 3 of the dual 4's with all the coils and subs in parallel on a Sundown saz3000d for a .66 ohm load. At .66 the saz3000 will easily put out 3500 watts and a nice 1150 watts per sub rms. c0smo kram3r
He asked about Kicker or RE, not DC guys. Yeah, but why not suggest them? You know they're good subs & you can't go wrong with them. Personally, I think he'd be happy with them if he got a bigger amp. If he doesn't get a bigger one, then he can go with some Lv3s.
