ptcary Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 If power requirement is the same, what is the advantage to a sub with a greater x-max and stronger motor structure? Significant difference or not really? PTCary 2003 SMD PT Cruiser 2011 Honda CBR 250R 2010 Mazda 3i Sport MY BUILD LOG
Slappin F150 Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 I suppose I greater xmax would allow more air movement and better lows. The stronger motor structure, it would be able to hold the power for longer periods of time without getting as hot as one with a weaker motor structure on the same amount of power. Eskii Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 X-Max does account for better lows, but it's not really something that should have you sold on a certain sub. Take a look at DD's sub design and you'll notice that they reduce x-max and also the moving mass of the sub for better control. The motor structure is the more important, as Slappin said, it partially detertmines the thermal handling capabilities of the woofer.
