dwright27 Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 okay, so i puller the MT 18 apart today after it mysteriouly quit working on me. to my surprise the coils were very golden. not black. figured i may have been clipping it and caused it to die, but IDK. Are all your windings still tight from what you can see? There is always the chance that the glue manufacture could have sent the speaker builder a bad batch of glue and of course the speaker builder wouldn't have known untill it was too late. Take a look in there if you can and see if the coil windings are slowly pulling away from the former. When you push on the cone what does it sound like down in the pole piece? Do you hear scratching from the coil riding loosely in the pole piece? I'm sure you know that if the cone is locked up, then usually that means someone clipped the fuck out of your amps and the subs are done for. LOL unless you have alot of patience to clean the pole piece that is full of melted copper shards. LOL unless you have alot of patience to clean the pole piece that is full of melted copper shards. no the cone wasnt locked up and sometimes, when the bass was dropping it would cut in and out like there was aloose connection somewhere. i figured i had a loose connection checked over and over and over and nothing was loose. i noticed when it cut in and out it the amp would stay on andnot lose power so i knew it wasnt the amp at that point. also, when it would cut out, if i "tapped"/hit down onto the cone very lightly it would cause it to come back on, this beffled me the first time i done it. ive already pulled the cone, coils and spiders off. the coil kinda looks like a layer unwinded at the top of coil but its not like dangling anywhere. and the pole piece is spotless being as an MT doesnt have a pole piece. and there wasnt a scratchy noice like coils where blown EVER. I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
