rubbernutz1 Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 so it is the head gasket that shit on you?
Colin - STAPUFT Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 so it is the head gasket that shit on you? That wasn't the only thing. It was all the other things I have replaced too. Head gasket or the head or valve is gone on the Passenger's side as well. And CAT is clogged. Lots of stuff wrong. On the plus side, I have run an additional 4awg run (total of 5), 2 additional 2awg grounds (total of five), rewired the buss bars and some other power goodies. If only I could get in my other 220 amp alternator after it gets running again... we would be in business!!! 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain. Colin - STAPUFT Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 id try choppin that cat off 1st its the easiest thing left to do Already ahead of you. Did that already- no dice. Still clogged, but not the only issue. Just got the price for head gasket & motor mount replacement: $1,000 for LABOR ONLY. OUCH. I swore I wouldn't tear into it myself again, but guess what? For that kind of bread, looks like I am going to have to. Watch- I will get the head off and probably find that it has scorched a groove across the block. lol. A smarter man would have given up so long ago- but alas... I refuse. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain. rubbernutz1 Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 mite be cheaper just to drop that v8 in there after all
Colin - STAPUFT Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 Some Powa! 0awg makes 4awg look DINKY! Positive on the Left, Ground on the Right. 5 2awg grounds They are up there somewhere! 2 80 amp Stinger Relays waiting on the mids & highs amps. Waiting on the speaker wires from the amps. Pay no attention to that 11.8 Volts showing on the volt meter. It was off with the system playing- and... I had been playing it for a while. Head gaskets and Heads rebuilt (as long as the block isn't scoarched) coming next. Wifey has surgery next week.... ....so.... we shall see how things develop. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain. I know exactly how you feel! LOL! Got pics of the door pods? I think about redoing mine every once in a while, then I think about how much that would suck- and I say nah. haha! Thanks for the well wishes tho- especially for the wifey. She has to have her gall bladder removed (sounds lovely, right?)- but that shouldn't be too big of a thing. I just have to take care of her and do all the house work, kid and all, for several days. Colin - STAPUFT Posted June 25, 2011 Author Report Posted June 25, 2011 FREAKING FINALLY!!!! Got Started on upper motor tear down- finally got the evil cylinder head off: Looking at the engine from under the hood. Compressor, intake, brackets, and head all out. SUX. From the side door looking at the "dog house" pull the seats and get to pulling parts. The top of my motor- brought out through the inside of the van piece by piece. Gotta' love Astros. I think I see the problem.... Passenger's side Head out. Gasket GONE between middle cylinder 4 and back cylinder 6. Could explain why Cylinders 4 & 6 had CRAP for compression. So- have to clean up the head and block, get my pops to do a quick clean up and valve job, get it magnafluxed, and then back together again. I have already replaced ever little thing on top of the motor as well- rebuilt distributor, replaced coil, egr, all sensors, etc.... A real question.... do I put a compressor back in there or say screw a compressor and put my other "220" amp alternator in there??? AC is nice, but Heaven knows I could use the additional amperage.... 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain.
