ptcary
What Steve uses in not an RCA level signal cut/reducer. He uses the remote gain controlers that come with his RF amps. I actually have both an RCA level reducer and the remote gain controller in my PT because I already had one when the other came with my new AQ sub amp. I mainly use the remote gain contoller, because it has more direct control. Right now I can get a 'soft clip' only on Jeezy's Hypnotize, and it is hard to reach the gain on the amp, so the knob works best for me! ptcary
It depends if your amp came with a bass BOOST knob or a remote knob. That pic shows a boost knob. For instance sundowns have remote knobs which the easiest way to put it, with the knob all the way up your subs see 100% what your amp gain is set to. When you turn the knob down it lowers the gain accordingly, so you're not using bass boost like a lot of amps have which is what can/does blow subs. Its like a governer if you will, letting you hold back the bass until you want it. The RCA knob is the same as a remote gain knob, the only diff is that with the rca one all the way down there is NO power to the subs, with a factory one (atleast the sundowns i have had) drop it down very low but there is still a minute amount of power going to them. I stand corrected! maybe RF amps have a 'boost 'knob (????) My AQ amp has a remote 'gain' knob. smokeumtires
He uses his 360.2 eliminates the need of a "bass Knob"
The enD
Thank you for the replies guys. I never intended using the bass boost...
95_1500
I stand corrected! maybe RF amps have a 'boost 'knob (????) My AQ amp has a remote 'gain' knob. I dont think rf would use bass boost knobs... Could be wrong, i dont have any experience with them. Just my standpoint with sundown amps. meade916
i use the bass knob that came with my amps, actually 1 runs all 4 when your in master/slave mode......i ALSO use the bass volume controller from the 3sixty.2. if you blow a sub with the bass knob that CAME with the amp, that is user error not bass knob error. All amps should be set to NOT clip even if railing on it with the knob. Just because you use the factory bass boost does not mean your going to automaticly fry your subs but you can - just like you can smoke a sub if you dont have one at all. I think the problem is it makes it just a little EASIER to be irresponsible since its at your fingertips while driving. (and 99 out of 100 of you dont use an o-scope to set your gains) Again, if you set it up properly it should be no problem at all. Decaf
well i joined in on a few of these debates... bass knobs whatever u want to call them are fine to use, WITH AN OSCOPE/CLIPPING LIGHT whether its a bass knob, remote gain knob, bass volume, bass boost..... it doesnt matter; dont use them unless you know what the signal is doing.. and the only way to know that is a clipping light or osciloscope. period aq, dd, maybe new rfs and a few other companys actually use a remote GAIN knob, in which it affects ALL frequencies the problem with so called bass boost knobs is that they boost at a centered freq of usually 45hz and a desired frequency like on the parapunch eq bass knob..... a bass boost knob is virtually synonymous to going into ur eq settings and adding boost at the lower frequencies, instead u have a fancy little knob to do it and no knowledge of when u send ur signal into clipping but it is cool with steves setup using the 360.2... great wow factor
