BrownRice Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 im wanting to run a 2nd alternator on my car. im wanting to run a gm one wire alternator to a 2nd battery in the trunk used just for accessories. will a one wire be a good idea for just acccessories or will it overcharge/fry the battery?
brewer_brewer Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 first off. are you wanting to run an alternator for you front battery to power your car and then a second alternator to power a separate isolated battery in the trunk? don't do that. just wire the battery's together and run both alts to the front battery. will give you alot more total amps. lanman31337 Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 It's better to have both batteries as you're adding more amp hours with the extra battery. As far as the GM 1 wire, it'll be fine. BrownRice Posted April 9, 2009 Author Report Posted April 9, 2009 so is it 'bad' to have the batteries separate, i figure it would be a good idea for when i wanna bump some music or something with the car off. that way even if i drain the battery i still have juice to start up the car and recharge it
