meade916
hey guys, ive noticed on the last two builds i did, where i used 2 other brands (reputable of course) on the floorboard.....thickest foilback they carry, but i noticed that after a little while, it gets so hot you can barely touch it with your hand. Is there something that can be done about that? Is it just because the exaust pipe is down below and maybe it was idling too long (no wind under the truck to cool it off)? Is there possibly something that is better for that area? my Tahoe has a decent amount of deadener in KEY spots, but there is still lots i havent done and one of those places IS the floorboard. I would like to do that soon but i dont like the heat that is retained by the stuff i usually use. Anything special i should use or is that just normal? Anthony Collova
There are a few things you can do. You can apply a radiant barrier under the Tahoe. This will reduce the heat that transfers through, in to the cab. This would be a great option because it will keep the damping mat cooler, which will make it perform better. The hotter the butyl gets the less it works as a vibration damper, so keeping it cool is ideal. There is not much you can do to keep the heat from coming through. These products, even with really thick foil layers are passive dampers. The heat will get transfered through, eventually. The thicker foil will slow the heat down for sure, but really, once it transfers in to the cabin, game over. We are working on a new product. Very exciting stuff. It is a thick layer of aluminum foil (10 mils) laminated to a thin (1/4") sheet of spun fiberglass which also has a high temperature adhesive on it. This product can handle temperatures up to 1000 degrees with as little as a 2 inch air gap, and turn it in to 200 degrees. It will turn 300 degrees in to 125 degrees. Imrpessive stuff! Stay tuned for more info on it! What you can do to keep the heat at bay once it gets through the damper is apply a produc tthat does not transfer heat very well. For this we sell a product we sell Heat Wave Pro That can go on top of the damper you have in place. Then at least the heat will not get transfered in to the cabin as fast. 1 layer will reduce the transfer rate by as much a 700% Let me know if you want some samples. CaptainzPlanetz
Also make sure you Catalytic converter isnt getting cloged we had a guy come into the shop I work at said his floor was getting really hot, walked up to the car and could see a glow from his undercarrage, his converter was clogged and building up excessive heat, and was cherry red, it could of caused his carpet to catch fire if it got too much hotter. Though this may not be your problem never hurts to be sure, also you live in a state that has inspections so they would catch that in a flow test. Quote ¿ǝɯɐƃ ǝɥʇ Trolls never learn............
