OrenB217
I've been hearing that having your trunk open while subs are playing can mess up your voice coils, and potentially mess up your entire sub. Is this true or not? OrenB217
I just heard that it depressurizes the subs ( while in open air ), the voice coil expands and contracts too much, and it eventually burns out. white4d96
If you free-air the sub (without an enclosure) I think that would happen, but not if they are enclosed and you just open the trunk. Quote Too many projects, too little time...

just1moreamp
if you have a ported box you lose the loading of the sub and port and cone control---i would think anyway -- it would act as if it was a freeair sub--just my=2cents

OrenB217
yea thats what i was thinking cuz on lower frequencies, itll bottom out easier when moving in open air.....idk though, thats why i brought it up! lol Edited June 4, 2009 by obcaraudio Quote Black 1998 Nissan Maxima1st Setup: 145.8 DB Outlaw @37 HZ On Music Out Of Trunk2nd Setup: 147.8 DB @42 HZ On Music Out The TrunkCurrent Trunk Build:153.8 DB Outlaw @ 49 HZ Out the trunk (150.8 DB Sealed)Team gg. ryde2idie
when i open my trunk it gets way more intense but thats about it. if your using your trunk as the enclosure it would mess it up if you played it too loud while open caus your allowing the sub to flex too much and the coil will smack off the back plate.
