ok...

in my 96 golf, I have 4 6-1/2" Menace audio speakers (mid range, loud vocals) in each of my doors. Each speaker is rated at 250watts rms in 8ohm. I have been running them on my audiobahn 4channel bridged in 4 ohms a channel, utilizing both left side speakers on the left channel, and both right ones for the right channel. I read that my audiobahn puts out somewhere around 150 a channel in 4ohms, but I want something a bit louder being as these say they are rated for 250rms (probably not entirely true, but close). I went back to the place I bought them from and picked up an 800watt 2 channel Sony(I know, I know) amp. I installed it earlier, and adjusted the gain to about a tad more than halfway. Is this amp safe?

What would be a good rms wattage for 2 8ohm speakers wired to 4ohm a channel with a rating of 250watts rms?

If anything, I'll take the amp back for something else, as I already don't like it for lack of high-pass crossover controls.

1996 Vw Jetta

Crunch 1500watt

1- Kicker 15" L7 @ 1ohm in a 4cu. ft. Ported Enclosure Tuned to 32Hz.

4- 6.5" Menace Door Speakers &

2- Menace super tweeters in the dash

139.11db @ 40hz (6/2010..old amp setup)

each speaker will get 1/2 of the output so i would say it fine but dont hold me 2 that

I dont think you'll be hurting the mids any but i wouldn't ever recommend using a Sony amplifier in the first place. It sounds like your fishin for a reason to take it back cause you don't like it... If so here's my reason, It's a Sony. But aside from that like i said it shouldn't HURT anything.

Looking for a CRX to get back in the game.

And a gas tank for my 01 r6. Hit the PM

I know it's not gonna do anywhere near what it says, I just wanted something with a higher wattage. Here is the amp I got : Sony XMCR 1252

Looking at those numbers, it seems I can crank that amp and still be safe, correct?

That amp makes 2x125w @ 4 ohms. So you're getting about 60w per speaker. I'd say you're pretty safe - it's probably less power than the Audiobahn was giving them.

If you bought another Sony and bridged one to each side, that would be a different story. Maybe 300w to each side, 150w per speaker? Or you could take the amp back and get something like a Sundown SAX100.4 or DAT 125.4 which would give you about 150w into each...
