Enclosure Questions...

Ok im starting my enclosure build for my dc level 4 15". These are the measurements i have so far...

15.750 for depth

20" height

34" Width

3" Port Width

12" Port Length

55.5- Port Area

Comes out to 4.009 cuft at 32.45 hz.

My question is should the Port Width be fine to avoid port noise or turbulance? Also i was thinking of doin a double baffle on the outside of the enclosure for a flush out but should i do a inner baffle? These measurements are without displacements aka woofer or baffle. Just wanted to double check should be good to go.

I already started with the other peices of mdf and even with predrilling and countersinking the mdf seems to split any tips?

as i just said in your other topic, you will be fine with 13.87sqin of port area per cubic foot of box.

i definitely think you should do a 2nd baffle, above the box. that way you dont lose any displacement and you strengthen the box.

btw, to find out how much port area you have per cubic foot, you do the total amount of port area. in your case you had 55.5sqin worth. then you divide that by the cubic footage of your box, 4cuft.

55.5/4 = 13.87sqin per cuft. the ideal number is between 12-16.

33.5" total length of port down center of port

11.25 and 17" port walls

do an outside baffle... it will drop ur tuning a tiny bit, but round over both the entrance and exit of the port and you equal back out

cool thank you. Thats a cool program btw decaf. ohh yeah how to you guys stop the mdf from splitting? I predrilled and countersunk but still happening.

alls i do is predrill and it works fine for me.

say you are using 2" drywall screws.... go 2.5" down with ur predrill and make sure you are using a 1/8 bit (iirc)

that usually helps me... and use more torque than speed so you dont mash the screw in.. remember its to hold the glue in place... the glue is stronger than the screws you put in....

do them every 3-4" usually

hmmm never did screws always did brads, tightbond 3, bracing with screw don't know if that counts and liquid nail instead of caulk on all inside seams never had a problem just was wondering why everyone seems to use screws never got it seems it would lessens the wood structure in the long run by having such a big hole in the edge oh each piece.
