Generally speaking, round speakers have less distortion, but more cone area.

They make component 6x9s?

Better is relative. If you get a top of the line 6x9 and compare it to a bargain bin 6.5, the 6x9 would be "better," but when comparing like to like, yes, the 6.5 is the normally more accurate sounding speaker.

Nine times out of ten though, you won't hear the difference.
