For example: lets say i get a JBL GTO 1400.1 amp (which im actually saving up for ) which is rated at 1200 rms at 4 ohms. How many 4 ohm subs can I power with that one amp while still putting out 1200 rms? Would I still be getting a good amount of power if I were running say, three subs off that one JBL amp? Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

Thanks in advance for any help/advice! You wouldnt be able to wire three 4 ohm subs at 4 ohms. Not happening no matter what you do.. As far as how many subs can be ran, that depends on the rms ratings of the speakers.. Say if you have 2 12 inch 600rms speakers, and they have dual 4 ohm voice coils, that would be all you could run without underpowering the sub. 600 wrms plus 600wrms = 1200rms As far as ohms. If you take two single voice coil 4 ohm subwoofers, there is no way to run them at 4 ohms. Your option would be 2 ohms, or 8 ohms (which 8 ohms would put out almost no power)! When looking at ohms, You can wire woofers together in "series" or "parallel" or "series / parallel" When wiring speakers together in series, you multiply the voice coil ohm by how many speakers you have. So two 4 ohm woofers times 2 equals 8 ohms. When you wire your subs in parallel you divide the voice coil ohm by how many speakers you have. So two 4 ohm woofers divided by 2 equals 2 ohms The jbl amp you are looking at is stable down to 2 ohms, and is rated at 1500wrms by 1 @ 2 ohms, so it puts out a tad more power.
