2v or 4v head units

my old head unit is 2 volts preouts my new one has 4v peramp outs do i need to redo my gains they were set with a dmm with my old jvc they are set the same as with the 2v cd player but the new one with 4v outs is way louder but i dont here any clipping or smell coils getting warm so should i just leave it the way it is thanks any help please

yes you need to reset the gain.

the purpose of the gain is to match the preout voltage of the source

you will get a louder, cleaner sound with the 4v then you did with the 2v.

set it up like this is the first time the amp has been installed to match the headunit.

good upgrade.

technically it won't be louder since the gain will be set for 4v.

it will put less stress on the amp and your electrical because you aren't having to crank the gain.

I did notice a tighter sound with my increase from 2v to right around 7v

it will have a louder, cleaner SOUND. i'm not saying you're gonna pick up 10 db's.

you will get a better sound

where did you get a head unit with such high preouts?

its a clarion eq that claims 7v but I think that might be max and rms 4v

I'm not sure but it made a world of difference

some eclipse headunits had 8volt preouts.
