Sub Question

Hey everyone i need to know what i could use as a spacer to put behind my sub ? Need something thats approximately 1/2" thick and relatively cheap to buy or make. What its for is im putting a new sub in my T-line enclosure and the new sub is 3/16" longer than the old sub so if i can get a half inch spacer it will fit in the box. The box is already tuned properly for the new sub just a hair to shallow is all.

your local shop should have sub rings made of 1/2, 3/4 or maybe even 1 inch mdf.

if they don't then take any spare mdf you have laying around and make a spacer. i've made spacers out of 3/4 inch blocks of micarta i had laying around before (talk about sturdy).

if you're looking to do it fast then cut out a 14 by 14 square (for a 12 inch, would be bigger or smaller depending on size of sub) and then the subs mounting diameter centered in the middle. then just screw that centered over your original hole and mount the electrostatic beat machine.

or just cut a circle with the diameter of your subs overall diameter with the mounting diameter in the middle and sandwich it between the sub and the box (when i do this i recess the screws for the spacer a 1/16 or so and mount them offset of the screw holes on my basket)

^^^^^i usually put some sealant or wood glue between the spacer and the box just to be safe and seal it up.

take a board, cut the mounting diameter of the sub on the inside and cut the outside larger than the outer diameter of the basket and joo set

quick question.

if you are looking at the bottom of the magnet of your sub, is there a hole going through it toward the dust cap?

or do you have a pole plug (no hole going through magnet)

if you DO NOT have a pole plug then DO NOT mount the motor to close to the port wall of your t-line. this will effect your sub performance. depending on the sub it usually needs to be AT LEAST 3/4 of an inch away from anything.

incase your wondering why.

it creates a vacuum/sealed type effect, mixed with the crazy cone movements that t-lines will do, it can make your sub either sound horrible, possibly rip spiders, bottom out, etc.

so if this is the case then just add another spacer to pull the motor away from the wall a little more. i personally don't like mine any closer than 3/4 of an inch away from the wall

it has a hole in the bottom the magnet going towards the cone.
