How thick MDF for 18" sub

Recommended Posts

Im building my sub box but I dont know how thick to make the enclosure. Sub is 18" Atomic APX. Will be 6cubes net @32hz. How thick should the box be. I was thinking 1.50 all around and a 2.25 baffle. But I can go 3" all around if need be. Although it will be awhile before I run the reccommended 5000rms in the meantime Ill be running about 3000rms. I was told by another guy his AP(one step lower than the APX)12 Was still flexing his box with the 1.50. I will not be glassing the inside of the box so should I go 3 all around?

maybe his was flexing cuase he didnt build it right maybe?? but that 3" seems like it would hold it up.

That's why they don't deliver.

Yer ass better go sit along the side of the road and wait.

You can't expect them to travel up some dirt road in a hick / back woods town. Thats how horror movies start :D

I explain things very simply and use analogies in terms of Pickles, and grape drink, pool noodles and jackhammers...if you can't put 2 and 2 together there man, There simply is not much more I can do.

Believe me, it was built right ;)

Did close to 140dB at 29hz from 1 12 in fact. But that was a 1.5" baffle with 0.75" the rest of the way around, quite a large box too.

You'll be fine with 1.5" all round and a 2.25" baffle. Maybe throw a 4x2 in there between the 2 largest faces.

I guess ill go ahead and do the 1.5 with 2.25 baffle and run a brace from front to back and top to bottom! 140db @29hz. from 1 12 is amazing! I would be happy to do that with my 18 APX! Thats what, equal to 2 12's and its the next model up! Maybe Ill get better numbers than I thought I would. My one downside is I have a 4 door. Sub enclosure will take up 90% of my back seat but I have a feeling those four doors are going to leak a lot of air!
