tdubslug Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Running 2 solo baric l5 10s with a bd 1000 at 1ohm. The light has never come on before and i havent changed anything since ive had them hooked up. The higher bass notes still hit with the bass knob all the way up but when the low notes come in the knob has to be at half power or the amp goes into protect. any ideas on what i can check

How did you set your gains? What type of box are the subs in? (Sealed, Ported, Tuning, etc.) My Official Feedback Thread PSN - tech2332 Games for PS3: Killzone 2, BattleField: Bad Company 2! tdubslug Posted July 27, 2009 Author Report Posted July 27, 2009 The box is a prefab ported kicker box i dont know what its tuned to the gain on the amp is at a little over halfway
kirill007 Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 did you set you gains with a o-scope or a DMM? Turn down you gains to 1/3 or 1/4, and then try again. Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
*1LOWSUV* Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 I'm thinking either your gain is too high or your voltage is dropping reeeeaaal low from the bass notes. What is your electrical system like? : [email protected]
Decaf Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 the lower the note the lower the impedance rise, and the more power the sub potentially sees... so im guessing anything below 40hz if ur using a frefab box, so songs like jeezy air forces and lower, sends the amp into protect? so combine voltage drop + a prefab box + incorrectly used bass knob/possibly too high gain = protect light how about u get rid of the knob all together... turn the gain up accordingly and see if the same things happens, u might be clipping with the bass knob and have voltage drop or turn the knob up all high as ul ever turn it, all other bass boosts at 0 or flat, and turn gain up accordingly until the protect light doesnt come on at all... sounds safe to me
iTech Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 I would say to build a better box, with lower tuning. Most prefab boxes are tuned high ( 40's) for it to be loud on the higher notes. I say build one tuned around 30-35 Hz to hit the lower notes better, and overall more sound quality. My Official Feedback Thread PSN - tech2332 Games for PS3: Killzone 2, BattleField: Bad Company 2!
