I have a question about wiring my subwoofers!

Recommended Posts

Can anyone post the diagrams for wiring 2 dvc 4ohm subwoofers to a mono amp that is 2 ohm stable.

i know theirs series and parallel but not exactly on the way there both wired! Thanks!

You can only get a 1ohm load or a 4 ohm load

You could wire it to 1ohm and impedence rise and box rise should put it over 2 ohms, but still be careful about it...

When you say "Impedence rise and box rise" What exactly do you mean by this?

It means he's quoting some buzz-words he's heard SPL guys using... box rise and impedance rise are the same thing...

Because your speakers are an inductive reactive load the impedance will rise above the 'nominal' resistance when the subs are playing. However if you clip it you get no reactance and your amp sees the DC resistance = protect or smoke. Also some frequencies will have very very little rise... like 0.1 ohms... which isn't enough to keep an amp alive at half it's rated impedance.

I had a rant about this a while ago (http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...c=46770&hl=), it's one of my pet peeves. Impedance rise will not save you, the amp is rated at 2 ohms for a reason. Wire it to 4 ohms, or get a different amp, or get another amp and run 1 on each sub @ 2 ohms.

2 DVC drivers with Voice Coils in Series / Parallel

Connecting the two voice coils of each driver in series (+ to -) and the drivers themselves in parallel (+ to +, etc.) will result in the following impedances:

Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofers: 6 Ohms

Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofer: 4 Ohms

Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofer: 2 Ohms

Dual-1.5 Ohm Subwoofer: 1.5 Ohms
