Louder trunk

take my advice on this, smaller boxes help yield higher output and power handling, so id say go the smallest u can on the solo x, isnt it like 5 cubes? If not, why not get 1 15" Fi BTL? Ive seen some pretty good hairtricks on 3k watts. I myself dont have the btl yet (only have my amp) but im sure you would have no problem with that. Plus you can sell the solo x for an assload of money and have enough for the btl, plus more left over. Again, this is what id do cuz you need room for air to move, and i still cant believe u fit a solo x in there! lol

I was gonna say...even if you could try and angle it forward, the depth and mag would probably never let it fit without hittin...Id sell the 18 man...and just take advice off of the other guys...

I have been running into that with the designing. the only way i MIGHT be able to face it forward or back is if i make part of the box dip down into the spare area. but unless i take my box out, i cant measure it. i still dont knopw if it would work. I have to take my box apart to get it out, and that takes forever.

I currently have it in 5.5 cubes @38 hertz and it is louder then when i had it at 6.5 cubes, cause the airflow from the sub into the cabin. the Solo-Xs dont resell very well. I would probly be lucky to get $500.

Just added some Fatmat Deadener to the trunk lid. Made a noticible difference. When i finished and went to test it, i heard a flapping noise from under the car. In the trunk there was a vent or something that was allowing air to blow through. I pulled the vent and covered it up.

That vent is just for letting pressure out when you close your doors, it doesnt really effect much, but if you slam your door hard, your ears may pop, but at least that flapping sound is gone, I did the same thing to the flap on the trunk of my Grand Am.

I vote rebuild w/ 2 12" DC LVL4xls, like 4.6ft3 @ 33hz w/ a single 8" aero in the middle. All of it facing forward sealed off from the trunk area.

To the OP - Please tell me u have sum sort of bracing inside the box?? I'd really hope so since you have a 100lb woofer on 4kw and that's gonna create alot of force on the baffle especially, but also on the other walls of the enclosure. If u plan on keeping the Solo-X, then i suggest a rebuild without question. Seems like u have a decent amount of space on the back part of the trunk(a lil on each side) that you're not taking advantage of. If u rebuild u could maybe lower the box by an inch or more if u did do that. Then i suggest you use sum threaded rod as bracing, 45s in the corners, plenty of glue/screws/sealant, resin the inside of the box to strengthen/make the box slicker, and maybe even switch up to a single big aero port(like 8 or 10" firing into the cabin).

Yes, there is bracing around the inside corners of the box with extra glue/screws/silicone. One reason, i didnt make the box shorter is that i wanted to make sure that there is plenty of space between the bottom of the magnet and the box. I am happy with the way it sounds now. So i would be nervous about switching it to 2 12"s. Have been thinking of better designs for the box. Thanks for the thoughts.
