Painting over chrome (answer/s inside)

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to paint chrome? If so, how. The grill that's currently on my truck was brand new when I got it (from a friend). It was white and I wanted it black so I began sanding it. It turns out of was 1 thin layer of white paint on top of chrome ( http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/01nocomment8so.gif ). It came from the manufacturer this way. Anyway, I painted it once, but it's marked where rocks hit it and the paint is peeling in one place (not much, it's almost invisible). It turned out very good, but it need repainting now. Thanks in advance.

My comp setup (Not bad for what it is):

HP Compaq Presario V6120US laptop with:

15.4" widescreen

AMD Turion 64 X2 1.6GHz processor

2x1GB stick DDR2 SDRAM (667 Mhz)

Seagate Momentus 500GB SATA HDD

128MB shared video memory

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

12 cell Lithium Ion battery (actual battery usage time: 6 hours)

What it does:

On a USB 2.0 Wireless card

i had 2400 watts... (two of the amps i have now) in my explorer with just a yellow top... i really didnt have that much voltage drop... 13.7 was the lowest i saw... (had two15 kove u2 Armageddon's) i miss those days :(

i should delete those last 2 posts since they are so far off subject.

we are not talking about "chrome paint" we are talking about painting over something that already has a chrome finish...

Yeah. Matching the wheels to your paint would look good.

yes there is

My bad. I meant painting over chrome. I should have made that clear.

The best way i have found to paint over chrome is to use a sand blaster and remove the chrome.

Thanks. I figured sandblasting would be a good way. The only problem is, I don't have a working compressor. There's a leak in one of the pipes that I can't find and I don't want to run it because it could tear it up (my dad shut it off after it ran continuously for 3 days straight, and 3 days later there was no pressure).

Does anyone know any other way to paint over chrome (until I get my compressor fixed)?

EDIT: sorry I didn't respond earlier. I had to go to my part time, minimum wage job. :(

What grit should I use to get the best result? I have a power sander (though it's useless with all the tight spots, it still works on the broad surfaces). Would that help (didn't have it the first time).
