Hunters21w Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Alright so the other night I was driving around and suddenly my sub went silent with no warning. I put the sub on a dmm and it just sits at 1 when its a dc lvl 4 18 dual2. Tried hooking it up to friends car and wont make a sound. When I put other subs on my amp it doesnt work. Is my amp sending bad signals? My amp is still running and everything is hooked up correctly. This sub is only about 3 months old and in very good condition. plz help! 06 Police TahoeHU- Pioneer 80prsAmp- Crossfire 8kSub- 4 15" Crossfire xs v2sWire- 1/0 Knu/AudiotechnixAlt- 3 Mechman SMD 340sBatts- 6 XS Power 3100s, 2400

Hunters21w Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 What should I look for when I hook it up like that? 06 Police TahoeHU- Pioneer 80prsAmp- Crossfire 8kSub- 4 15" Crossfire xs v2sWire- 1/0 Knu/AudiotechnixAlt- 3 Mechman SMD 340sBatts- 6 XS Power 3100s, 2400
BIGD502 Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 What should I look for when I hook it up like that? theres nothing technical to it to be honest just have your sub hooked up and if your sub plays its something wrong with your signal if it doesnt play then you have a major problem
Hunters21w Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 I already know the sub doesn't play. I hooked it up to the dmm and it wasnt showing 2ohms and when we hooked it up to my friends car it wasn't running either. Now I just want to figure out whats wrong with the amp. any ideas? 06 Police TahoeHU- Pioneer 80prsAmp- Crossfire 8kSub- 4 15" Crossfire xs v2sWire- 1/0 Knu/AudiotechnixAlt- 3 Mechman SMD 340sBatts- 6 XS Power 3100s, 2400
jbondox Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 you said it is a dual2, which would give you 1 ohm... if paralleled you can also hook up the DMM on resistance to each voice coil and measure the resistance at rest, and you can also see how the resistance will change when the cone is moved... when done with that voice coil, move to the next voice coil. further if reads an extremely high resistance at rest it is possible the coil is toast or if it reads no resistance and is a dead short further do the above test with the wires removed, I seen people check this with coils in series and it screws up the readings. did you try another sub hooked to your amp? if it works then you know the problem is after the amp, possibly wire, connector, or woofer SMD SuperSeller VerifiedJbondoXJames Shields

Make sur eyou disconnect the coils from each other before using the DMM. Also, use a DMM to set the gains on the amp.
