Basshead08 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Is carbon fiber or kevlar stronger than fiberglass cloth? It'll be used to strengthen my next box if I ever get a day off. Also would I need a different kind of resin for the carbon fiber or the kevlar? System tear out has begun...Out with the old i have a iq of 128 i graduated at the top of my class tell me how im reatrded you are the 1 thats dumb as hell you can't even spell Look at the underlined text hahahahahahahaha I think of it as the virgin losing the virginity technique not just jumping in to it, and pounding away, but going at it slowly over time, to get to that full extreme
thehoe92 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 haha make that box bullet proof! I would just stick with fiberglass just for the fact that you can pick up materials for fiberglass anywhere Wouldnt be thehoe92 without teh purple
Basshead08 Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 Just curious because I found a store on ebay that sells carbon fiber and kevlar for reasonable prices. Can never have a box that's too strong. takenotes101 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I would image that carbon fiber is the strongest, its stronger than steel. But, i believe that you have to put it in a vacuum right?
Basshead08 Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 I have no idea. If I have to put it in a vacuum then forget it lol. I just don't mind spending a little more to make my box as strong as possible. Anybody know for sure about the vacuum thing? Basshead08 Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 Well damn lol. Guess thats outta the question.I just figured I could use it just like fiberglass. DHFHades Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 to make carbon fiber parts you have to have it in a vacuum AND heat it at the same time. as for using it instead of fiberglass I don't see why you couldn't, you would need to squeegy the resin through it I would think since it's less porous than fiberglass. whats the website, maybe I'll get some and try it on my next enclosure 1990 Jeep Cherokee 4X4 Pioneer DEH-P2900MP, Big 3 done in 1/0, 1 run 1/0 ran to amp DAT HF1000.1 #007 powering a DC lvl4 15 DAT HR 4085 prototype powering 2 Selenium 6s and 2 no name tweeters running active 1st place in AS3 @ Surf City Sound Off, 140.8 @ 45hz @ the headrest. rebuild coming soon to get a better score "I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. Basshead08 Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 I would like to find out for sure before I do it. I've tried researching it but no luck... raytard Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 you "can" just use carbon fiber and clear resin/hardener in a like "throw it in the corner for reinforcement" application, you're better off doing 2 or 3 layers of regular fiberglass the parts they make out of cf are put in an autoclave to make the resin set faster and compact the layers together better. it wouldnt perform appreciably better in an application like yours, if anything it would just be for appearance.
