Alternator and Batteries

Recommended Posts

So I finally saved enough money to get a new over-and-under shotgun woot woot :yahoo: Now I wanna work on my electrical and upgrade my system.

So my goal is to run 2 HDC3 10's on a AQ 3500D

I've been watchin this vid I found, I'm pretty sure it's been linked on here before:

http://www.youtube.com/user/MaxxsonicsUSAI...s/1/H5MP5F-uJAw

Anyway, following what Mike is saying my 3500D needs 330A to produce the 3000W I'm shooting for.

My stock alt. is 105A which will put out 63A to my 3500D, leaving me with 267A lacking.

Well seeing as how there is no where I can keep 3 batteries I decided to upgrade the alt.

So a DC 230A alt. would put out 188A to my 3500D, leaving me with 142A lacking.

Thats assuming my stock electrical needs didn't increase with the bigger alt.

I can produce that with 2 D3400 power cells from XSPower that produce 75Ah each.

Does this look right or am I calculating something wrong here.

My number one question is, can I replace my stock battery with a D3400, or do I still need it to start the truck?

Oh and another question is, am I leaving myself enough room to play with, meaning, I'm not cutting it so close that my system is on the brink of failure.

And numer three is, does anyone know of a way to figure out how much A/W I'm losing per ft. of wire I run? Or is that just getting into the usless information catagory.

is a dual alternator kit available for your vehicle? you may want to start with that, as alternator power > batteries

Well there is, but I'm hoping to upgrade my truck to a Duramax in December so I didn't really wanna buy a $360 bracket just for three months then not be able to use it. But I can re-use the batteries and 1 alt.

I'll just use the Wire/Fuse Guide pinned to this forum for the wire size and not worrie about the Amps/Watts lost in the wire since none of my runs are longer than 20'.

  • 2 weeks later...

Alright I'm bringing this thing back, see if I can get anyone to answer this next question.

SOOO from re-reading what I said before about how many amps my 3500D needs to produce 3000W, which is 330A, I got to thinkin about fuse sizes. Knukonceptz says it's wire will take loads over 300A BUT fuses only go up to 300A. So what do I do about the extra 30A I need to make the 3000W I'm lookin for?

Help would be appriciated.
