Dan208
I've got a Kenwood KS-0505HT that's going on 5+ years old. We recently upgraded the size of our TV and downsized the TV stand (sounds strange but it worked). I've got a few questions about trying a new setup. 1) I'm trying to go away from all the surround speakers and was thinking of a soundbar, but I'm not sure exactly how they work. Do soundbars just run off the receiver like normal surround speakers or is there something else to it? 2) I'm having trouble selling my Adire Audio Shiva. I was thinking of trying to build my own cabinet for it and was wondering if the amp from the Kenwood sub (SW-35HT) would work? According to the instruction manual it's 100 watts @ 4 ohms. This would work with the Shiva, but I'm not sure if I can transfer the amp to another sub cabinet. The receiver is a Kenwood VR-507 and I would like to keep it if possible. We use our HT for 90% movies and 10% music. raytard
tbh, the soundbars are more of a gimmic than bose stuff. they dont sound like true surround, and they dont sound all that good in general. music comes through fine, but if you're playing call of duty or watching black hawk down, dont expect gun shots to clap through your speakers with any punch, or any bullets to whizz by you and smash into the wall behind you. its a gimmic, and it works great for what it is, but if you already have surroundsound why downgrade? maybe get a less obtrusive set of fronts? qu1cks1lver56
we installed a type of soundbar speaker in a house one time, but it was an in-wall that had the left right and center speakers in it. we put it under the lcd on the wall, sounded nice and we paired it with some jamo in ceiling surround speakers and a psb sub that was a powered 10" with 2 passive radiatiors all in a pretty small box. but it wasnt really the soundbars like youre talking about. jl10w3s
Most sound bars are powered and have some type of audio switching on them so you can have a dvd and game system and cable box hooked up to them. The only one that I have played with is the one from Yamaha and it was ok I guess as far as taking the amp out of the old kenwood sub it should be no problem. bigredishott
The amp should come right off. Just a few screws, and a wire going to the sub. Dan208
Thanks for the help. I wouldn't mind sticking with surround speakers as long as I can find some that are quite a bit smaller than what I currently have. jl10w3s
Check out the Focal Sibs they are a great compact HT speaker and they make a matching sub called the Cub that slams! bumonskateboard6
Want a soundbar that will blow you away? Bowers and Wilkins Panorama: http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/display.aspx?infid=4118 I have heard this in person and personally feel that it has fantastic sound just as good as a mid priced 5.1 channel system and what's best is it doesn't need any receiver. Low voltage doesn't blow amps. That's a myth. A router that does the sub holes makes rounded edges also?
