Coolwazabi Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 say that my wires are right... car has been through numerous tune ups... and the carb is adjusted correctly... i still have to pump gas when starting cold and still have to wait... is there anyway that i can start up and just go ? i highly doubt in 1979 that people waited 5 min just to warm there car a lil so it would be driveable... Big P Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 yes people in 1979 had to wait 5 minutes for there car to warm up. Little less in summer time. ive owned dozens of old v8s and even the crate motors needed pumped. it gets worse when there built to. You could Check for vacuum leaks Check the fuel line Check the fuel filter Check the the thermostat. Simply pull it and put it in a bowl of water on the stove with a cooking themamiter. check the thermometer when it opens. if its open and not closed its broke get a new one. if it never opens its broke to. check your chock check your primary's take some starting fluid and spray it around your heads and intake manifold If the engines idel increases then you might have a leak there. or your just getting starting fluid into the carb so pay attion. check your kick down cable and make sure its adjusted correctly. check your throttle cable. also with the car off. have some one floor the throttle. while its to the floor look down the the carb. is the butterfly past open or not open all the way? str86diesel Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Good..good to hear she's running better. as far as you question about starting up and taking off sooner. Well I have to agree with Big P. First off there are tons of things to check to see if/where a problem could exist. But on carbed cars, they were never the type to just start up and take off. The carb works off of a suction, so it does take a moment to regulate the fuel pressure. Also, on a side note, the worst thing you can do to any vehicle new or old, is start it and take off. Most engine wear is because lack of oil in the motor. I don't car what kind of car it is, upon starting it, the motor needs to idle for a moment to get all of the fluids flowing. Lubricity is key to all moving parts!! Quote 2k6 Dodge Ram 2500...CUMMINS POWERED - SOLD
Coolwazabi Posted April 28, 2007 Author Report Posted April 28, 2007 well i drove it today... on the carb it was... 4 3/4 turns each... don't know if thats good or not... but she runs good... sorta... Quote

Coolwazabi Posted April 28, 2007 Author Report Posted April 28, 2007 sorta meaning... if i let the engine warm up "20 min or so..." no matter what adjustment i did it drove... i close the knobs all the way... it drove shitty... but still drove... and just was messing with it... and finally came to a point where it ran best... and i just checked my plugs and wow are they wet... "gas" is that normal ? they had like pieces of dirt or soot or something and smelled of gas like no other... Quote
str86diesel Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 wet plugs mean that your running..wayyyy to rich. Quote 2k6 Dodge Ram 2500...CUMMINS POWERED - SOLD
