Is this a good amp? Kole KX1 5500D

Parts count means nothing. Nothing at all. My Stetsoms only have 8 output MOSFETs.

Compare these 2 parts....

IRFZ44N - standard TO-220 power supply MOSFET used in many, many cheap amps. ID is 49A.

IRF3205 - Grunty TO-220, looks just the same as a IRFZ44N, will work in the same amp 90% of the time, ID is 110A. Over twice the current. So an amp with 12 IRF3205's could easily put out twice as much power as one with 12 IRFZ44Ns

And therein lies half the difference between cheap amps and expensive ones :)

I've had 3 kx1-5500d's and they are ok at best. For the price, they are decent, but make nowhere near the rated power. And pure coincidence, the first one I had I used to push a set of hcca 15.4's. Only real good thing I can say about them is that they are not very power hungry at all. The first time I ran mine all I did was a big 3 upgrade and was fine. The second time, I had one on each solo-x 18 and all I had was a big 3/ irragi dominator 300 amp alternator and although there is some debate as to the accuracy of the epic 160 I was using, I did manage to pull 156 db with them. Not too bad for one battery and $4oo worth of kx1-5500d's ( in an escalade )...

law of physics buddy

if it cant draw more than 150a (maybe 155a before poppin) then u wont have any more than that X ur voltage

150*14.4v = 2160... and thats a 100% efficient amp... which doesnt exist

so

2160*80% efficiency (average of most amps at 4ohms mind u!) = 1728watts and that is pushing the amplifier at max capabilities

so add in voltage drop and real world 1-2ohm operation

150*13.5v = 2025

2025*70% (closer to 1 ohm operation) = 1417watts

so 1300-1700 watts is what that can do at 1ohm

so their power ratings are max, and overrated

lol you know that goes both ways, U should use that same math when you compare all amps then, not just the cheap ones. Funny how other name brand amps, can make more power on the same amount of fuses, but the cheaper ones just can't make the same power. Sundown 1500 had 160 amp fuses, the sax 1200 has like 120 amp fuse, Zapco c2k9.0 has 175-200 amp fuses, even the audiopipe 1500 only has 100 amps of fusing, and had been tested to do 1500 watts., i guess we should go by the fuse rating on those amps too

i love this sh--t man 1966 Ford Fairlane Pioneer prs 80, the big three, with 2 big azz agm batts, dual 270/200 amp alts , two 8'' mids and tweets in the kick( PPI phantom 600.2). two 10''s and tweets in the doors, two 10'' mids and tweets in the rear decK ( Lanar opti 500x2). 2 C2 Audio Threatcon 4 12s on a Crunch GP3000d. No crossover .

Yup, which we do.

And I would dearly, dearly like to see where a audiopipe 1500 tested at a clean 1500w.

x2 LOL, refer to previous comments, the amps such as the Sundowns and Zapcos and IA20's etc.... use much more durable and higher quality parts than its 200 dollar equal, so the amps using the better parts will put out rated or more than rated with a clean output, while the 200 dollar counterpart will do usually much less than rated with a muddy type of output.

The difference is making clean 1500rms and the other making a clipped to shit rms.

both below are "1500w" amps... haha, NOT

sax1500..... 160*13.5= 2160*.7= 1512w..... rated power... and the 1500 is more efficient than 70% iirc(more like 80%, which is 1728w, give it 14.4v@80% and u get 1843w)

ap1500...... 100*13.5= 1350*.7= 945w..... way under rated

its just simple math... but the more expensive amps have higher efficiencies and more reliable parts

the math above is just an example... i know im not takin some things into consideration

but i obviously showed why a sundown is better

ok we know it puts out 1843,at what thd probly 5%, so how much did that 1843 cost you????? so basically you could get two ap1500 and still have money left over and more watts , so what you're really paying for is all those calls to customer service, and paying their checks. Simple question, what is the dollar-per-watt of all those amps , when u do the math you will see that even if the cheaper amps, like audiopipe. autotek, crunch, etc.etc. u would find all thoses cheaper amps have a better dollar per watt ratio than thoses high end amps. then u wanna say (you get better cosumer service and a quailty part) well i have two Lanzar Vibes 1200D ($200) each, in my dailly driver, for the last 10 yrs , says that cheap stuff do last, and as for costumer service, if my amp never breaks, i shouldn't be on a one-on-one name base with cosutmer service.

from the review i've seen on the most of these so-called high end amp's they use mostley the same parts, same fets, same number of fets, same caps, same resitors, same power teroids, and even same zenon boards as the bands that cost hundred less,
