white4d96 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Share Posted October 9, 2009 If I heard correctly they are sending two pieces out: a probe to impact the surface and a receiver to collect fragments of the ground that gets kicked out into space. They are trying to find evidence of ice on the moon which could suggest the possibility of it being or having been inhabitable. Personally I think the millions upon millions of dollars spent on this would have been better spent elsewhere. Too many projects, too little time...
