JEB713 Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 First post on here although I do read alot of older posts. I have two of the Fi BTL 18" speakers on order with all the upgrades at dual 1 ohm config. I happen to have a little kicker zx1500.1 that a friend of mine is willing to trade me for a MA Audio HK4000.1. I have researched this amp and it has and unregulated power supply so it will accept more volts. Actully the amp only does 4000 watts at 17v which I think is kinda cheesy, why advertise a wattage most average consumers will never be able to make the amp reach. This leads me to believe the amp may not be that great either. Anyone that has heard this amp or have any experience with this amp I would really like to know what the general thought on it is. Here's the game plan on powering it.....I work at a full CNC machine shop so I'm going to mill out my own dual alternator bracket as they don't really look to complicated. So I have a 250 amp MEAN GREEN altenator with the smaller puller for higher idle output. Plan on dedicating the alternator for the stereo stuff. Here I have a little dillema. I see the Kinetik 12v / 16v battery and I am hoping that I can charge it 12v and put out the needed 16v to my amp. What are the advantages or disadvantages of doing this versus and external regulator. I currently own two optima yellow tops and I would still like to use them if possible since I already own them but, I'm ready to order one of the split 12/16 batteries if this will work. Running all my 12 volt batts together to the Kinetik will hopefully yield enough supply to power the amp at the 16v. If this wont work or if I have to have multiple 16v batteries please let me know as I havent messed with upping my volts before. I will probably run this amp on the two speakers for a bit but I would like to order another one just like it if it turns out to be a good amp. One of these HK4000.1 for each speaker. This will be in a 99 tahoe and I'm still kinda up in the air about the box so suggetions would be appreciated. I see most people doing speakers up port back and it seems this must be the best method. If anyone knows a quality box builder in Houston Tx. that you guys recommend please do tell. I talked to Scott on the phone over at Fi Audio for over an hour and I must say..what a great guy! It's rare you find a company owner this humble and helpful so I would recommend them to anyone. I'm getting him the measurments of space I have to work with and he's sending me some box plans. I will most likely build to the specs he recommends since he manufactures the speaker unless there is a better option for me. Thanks for reading and I will check on the thread soon for some reply's.
JEB713 Posted October 10, 2009 Author Report Posted October 10, 2009 Bump Bump somebody read and reply
CaptainzPlanetz Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 You have to have a 16Volt alt that charges at 18 volts in order to use 16 volt batteries. the Kinetik 16Volt batteries have a step down post to supply 12V but it doesnt work the other way. ¿ǝɯɐƃ ǝɥʇ Trolls never learn............ JEB713 Posted October 10, 2009 Author Report Posted October 10, 2009 It would be sweet if it did work that way though I thought it was too good to be true. So I been reading about this MA Audio HK4000.1 amplifier and it doesnt look too good though. I have a chance to trade a kicker zx1500.1 for it but I dont wanna do it if its bullshit. I can sell it on Craigslist and buy a better amp. Anyone have any knowledge on this amp???
xX MocK Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 I would look into a different amp. Get some quality power feeding those BTLs.
Hunters21w Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 I would sell the amp and buy a better quality amp. You are right tho by saying they can handle 4k a piece, that would be sick. good luck with your build man 06 Police TahoeHU- Pioneer 80prsAmp- Crossfire 8kSub- 4 15" Crossfire xs v2sWire- 1/0 Knu/AudiotechnixAlt- 3 Mechman SMD 340sBatts- 6 XS Power 3100s, 2400
