Parking Brake lead

Recommended Posts

This may or may not be a dumb question and it might have been asked a million times already but this is my first time installing an indash dvd/touchscreen unit. It is a Clarion VZ409 and it, along with every other unit (i think) requires a parking brake lead to operate the video portion at all. I am installing this into a 2001 jeep grand cherokee btw and there is no wire on the factory harness to match up with this parking brake lead. Ive heard of just grounding it, but ive also heard of putting a switch inline with it to fool the headunit into thinking the car is in park. At this point im not super concerned with bypassing the park feature but i think it would be nice.....I know you guys can help me out with this one.

Thanks

If you want to do a switch, then just buy a normal on/off switch and put your parking break lead to one input of the switch and your ground wire to the other. I have a pic, I'll get it from my photobucket right now.

And nice choice of unit, I had a Clarion and that's what I did ^ that too.

i know that the new generation pioneer touchscreens have a security measure where you have to ground out the parking wire, then unground it, then ground it again and keep it there. i had to wire up a switch in my friends car to bypass that. they sell kits online also so its pretty inconspicuous
